Selected work · through the lens

Eight apps in production.

Fifteen shipped, all of them living on six inches of glass: up Himalayan trails, across airport tarmac, into family living rooms in Japan. Scroll to pull back from the lens.

  1. 01 / 08Mobile app2024 — nowFounder · offline maps and an AI Sherpa

5,000 metres up, no signal. The trail map still works.

    Paila Paila

    Founder & Lead DeveloperIn-House · Paila Paila

    • Flutter
    • Dart
    • Offline Maps
    • GPS & Geolocation

    Outcome

Live on Google Play and on the web at pailapaila.biz; iOS in development.

    The challenge

Himalayan trails run for days beyond cell coverage and far from a charger. The app has to work without a network, go easy on the battery over a multi-day trek, and stay quick to use on the trail.

    What I built

    • Founded the product and lead its development across Android, iOS, and the web.
    • Built offline vector topographic maps and trail recording that keep working when coverage drops in the Himalayas.
    • Built real-time GPS tracking with straying alerts and group coordination.
    • Integrated Pasang, an AI Sherpa that helps with route planning, gear, permits, and altitude acclimatisation.
    • Built the network of verified local Nepali trekking guides, with live booking.

    The product

Paila Paila (पाइला पाइला) is a trekking platform for Nepal: offline topographic maps and trail recording, real-time GPS tracking, Pasang the AI Sherpa, and bookings with verified local guides. It runs on Android and the web, with iOS in development.

    • Flutter
    • Dart
    • REST APIs
    • Payment gateway

    Outcome

500,000+ installs on Google Play; live on Android and iOS with regular releases.

    The challenge

A mature, high-traffic app (on the App Store since 2015, 500K+ installs on Google Play) that has to keep shipping features without slowing down the booking flow travellers depend on.

    What I built

    • Feature development and maintenance across search, booking, payment, and My Trips.
    • Paginated My Trips so long trip histories load quickly.
    • In-app custom tabs so travellers can open important documents without leaving the app.
    • Performance work for a smoother booking experience.

    The product

The official Buddha Air app: search flights across Nepal and India, pay in the app, manage trips, keep an offline ticket, and check Royal Club mileage — as a member or a guest.

    • Push notifications

    Outcome

In daily use by Buddha Air staff (1,000+ installs); 2026 releases added Business Requests.

    The challenge

Airline staff needed one dependable place for HR requests and operational records instead of scattered processes.

    What I built

    • Builds and maintains modules for leave and attendance, duty rosters, and meetings and briefings.
    • Works on operations modules: flight programme, work orders, and pilot tech log.

    The product

Buddha Air’s staff app for HR and daily operations: leave requests and balances, attendance history, duty rosters, meetings and briefings, flight programme, work orders, and pilot tech logs.

A child sends a stamp for a finished task. A parent in Japan cheers back.

    Cheermee

Lead DeveloperMakura Creations · for START INNOVATION K.K., Japan

    • Flutter
    • Firebase
    • Node.js

    Outcome

Live on iOS and Android in Japan, with 500+ installs on Google Play.

    The challenge

The app depended on Firebase Dynamic Links, which Google was shutting down, and it needed faster, steadier performance on both platforms.

    What I built

    • Led Flutter development and worked directly with the Japanese client, project manager, and customer support team.
    • Migrated off the expiring Firebase Dynamic Links to a cost-effective alternative.
    • Fixed critical bugs, improved cross-platform performance, and added features.
    • Worked closely with QA and mentored junior developers.

    The product

A free, ad-free Japanese app that helps children build habits: kids report a finished task with a stamp, and parents cheer back with one.

    • Flutter
    • Firebase
    • REST APIs
    • Caching

    Outcome

Relaunched July 2024; later releases cut loading times and improved responsiveness.

    The challenge

The original app had architectural bottlenecks that made it slow and hard to extend.

    What I built

    • Rebuilt the whole app from scratch, on my own.
    • Introduced caching and a scalable architecture.
    • Improved the UI and UX and optimised API usage.
    • Guided the backend developer on database schema and API design.

    Outcome

Released June 2025; 500+ installs on Google Play.

    The challenge

A new product that had to handle growing course content and students from day one.

    What I built

    • Designed a scalable architecture from the ground up.
    • Handled edge cases, performance, and UX up front rather than after launch.

    The product

The learning app for Seed Financial Academy, Nepal’s first ACCA Platinum Approved Learning Partner: courses, video lectures, quizzes, and mock exams for ACCA and CA students.

    Outcome

5,000+ installs on Google Play; both apps are still shipping updates in 2026.

    The challenge

Legacy codebases that predated Dart null safety, held back by deprecated packages.

    What I built

    • Migrated legacy code to null safety.
    • Replaced deprecated packages to restore stability and performance.
    • Improved UI and UX across platforms.
    • Built QR-code check-in for the host app.

    The product

    • Flutter
    • Bloc
    • Clean architecture
    • REST API

    Outcome

Pull request merged upstream in December 2023; top contributor to the repo.

    The challenge

The detail view lacked API data and smooth navigation, some colours were hard to read, and models broke on optional API fields.

    What I built

    • Added swipe-up and swipe-down gestures between the agent list and detail page.
    • Pulled full agent details from the API into the detail page and polished the UI.
    • Fixed colour contrast, resolved dependency conflicts, and made models null-safe.

    The product

A Flutter app for browsing Valorant agents: swipe through the roster, then pull up for each agent’s role, bio, and abilities. Built with Bloc and a clean-architecture split.

Process

How we’d work together

A free first conversation, a written plan with a clear price, and then the build.

  1. Trailhead

Step 1: A free first conversation

We talk through your idea online: what the app should do, who it is for, and what matters most. It costs nothing and commits you to nothing.

  2. Route plan

Step 2: A written plan and a budget

I draft a contract that sets out everything we discussed: the features, the platforms, the milestones, and an estimate of the budget.

  3. Sign-off

Step 3: We agree, then we start

We go through the draft together and change anything that isn’t right. Work begins once we have both signed off.

  4. The climb

Step 4: Design, build, test, release

Then the standard path: design, development, testing, and release to the App Store and Google Play, with you kept in the loop throughout.

Namasteनमस्ते

I'm a mobile engineer from Kathmandu. I turn slow, fragile apps into fast, calm ones — and build new ones on foundations that last.

Over 4+ years I have led Flutter work for a Japanese client, rebuilt a fintech app from scratch, set up the architecture for learning platforms, and now build the booking and staff apps for Nepal’s largest domestic airline.

Sketching, painting, music, and dance shape how I design; meditation keeps me focused. I work closely with clients, QA, and backend teams, and I like mentoring the developers around me.
